Wedding Night
"Always remember: no matter what happens tomorrow, remember that I love you very, very much..."
I snuggled up closer to my husband of a few hours, feeling grateful, listening to his heartbeat, savouring his breath kissing my face. We seemed to be vibrating at a heightened state of bliss as tears of joy and fear welled up. I shooed away the worry and held him tighter. No one could take this moment away from us. Besides, everything would be all right. Think positive, live in the moment, Dilek. Think positive to attract goodness and healing...
We were lying in each other's arms in our "honeymoon suite". It was beautiful, cozy, bright, overlooking a small, lovely courtyard decorated with shimmering Christmas lights. Quiet. Mysteriously quiet though so close to two busy streets bustling with cars and pedestrians close to the city centre.
Dub... dub... dub... His heartbeat was so much slower than mine... relaxing, reassuring... He surely must be worried. How would it feel to know there are not one, but two tumours in your brain? To know that in less than twenty-four hours, a surgeon would be operating on your brain? How could he be so calm?
The charming little Christmas tree in front of our room was the only one on the floor - placed RIGHT next to our "door," just like our table with the only orchid, a gorgeous one at that, at the restaurant where we had savoured a delicious Thai dinner celebrating our elopement. It wasn't like we had reservations, nor had we mentioned we had just married.
"It's a sign," we thought. A good omen for sure!
Back at our honeymoon suite at the hospital... Before checking in, we had agreed we would ask for a private room and pay for the difference. However, we were delighted to find out that a private room was the only one available and so our medical insurance would cover it after all. Another auspicious sign!
Mind you, we had just a curtain separating us from the nurse’s station, but it was OUR room. With a single hospital bed, but our room. Who wanted a big bed anyway? We'd snuggle up comfortably, at least for a couple of hours...
